AAU: Stay Sober Elite
Gage Stepich (@Gage__11) is quickly becoming one of the names causing a buzz across Kansas basketball, and his recent No. 5 ranking in the Top25 Scouts Kansas Class of 2030 rankings only adds fuel to that rise. The Kapaun Mt. Carmel floor general has earned that recognition through a combination of skill, poise, and an elite understanding of the game that is rare for his age. He plays with confidence beyond his years, controlling the pace while keeping teammates involved and constantly putting pressure on defenses with his ability to create opportunities. Whether the game speeds up or slows down, Gage consistently looks comfortable operating as the engine that keeps everything moving.
Offensively, he brings a dynamic combination of shot-making and playmaking that makes him difficult to contain. A dangerous outside threat with unlimited range and a quick release, Gage stretches defenses and forces opponents to guard well beyond the arc. His handles, change-of-speed moves, and ability to create separation allow him to generate quality looks while also opening passing lanes for teammates. Those skills were on full display during a standout tournament performance where he finished with 21 points, 9 assists, 6 rebounds, and 4 three-pointers. His ability to read help defenders, make quick decisions, and deliver dazzling dimes gives him tremendous value as a lead guard and allows him to impact the game without needing to dominate the ball.
The numbers continue to speak loud and clear. Averaging nearly 19 points and 8 rebounds per game last season, Gage has shown he can produce while maintaining control of the offense. Perhaps even more impressive is the discipline he shows both on and off the court. Carrying a 3.8 GPA while balancing a demanding basketball schedule reflects the same focus and commitment that show up in his game. As he continues to mature physically and sharpen his already impressive skill set, the combination of intelligence, shooting touch, court vision, and leadership gives him a strong foundation for long-term success.
I assess that Gage thrives as a floor leader who combines scoring ability with outstanding decision-making. His court awareness, passing instincts, and ability to process the game quickly allow him to elevate those around him while keeping his team organized and efficient. The shooting range adds another weapon to his offensive arsenal, creating spacing and forcing defenses into difficult choices. His understanding of tempo and possession value gives him an advanced foundation that translates well to higher levels of basketball.
Gage possesses the tools that programs value in a lead guard because he impacts the game in multiple ways without forcing action. His offensive creativity, confidence with the ball, academic discipline, and natural feel for the game create a high ceiling moving forward. As his strength and athletic development continue to progress, his ability to impact winning should expand right alongside it. The combination of maturity, skill, and consistent production makes him one of the more intriguing young prospects in the Kansas Class of 2030.
