Every team has someone who stuffs the stat sheet, but Matthew fills just about every need a team could have. Whether it is battling on the boards, setting up teammates, protecting the rim, locking down opponents, or taking advantage of a scoring opportunity, Matthew leaves his fingerprints all over the game. Playing for UA Rise Cartersville, he has become the engine that keeps everything moving, bringing nonstop energy, toughness, and an unselfish approach that has helped fuel one of the best defensive teams on the Under Armour circuit. The numbers speak for themselves, but they only scratch the surface of everything he brings every time he steps on the court.
Fundamental U built its identity around sharing the basketball and making life miserable for opposing offenses. The team leads the Under Armour circuit in defensive points allowed, and Matthew has been right in the middle of that success. Through six games, he averaged 10.0 points, 10.4 rebounds, 4.8 assists, and 2.1 blocks per game while having six double-doubles in different ways, whether it was points and rebounds, points and assists, or rebounds and assists. His versatility showed up night after night with a perfect 20-point performance on 9-9 shooting against Team Tradition, a monster 14-rebound outing against Peninsula Gold, 12 rebounds against VA Havoc, eight assists against I4, seven more assists against Peninsula Gold, and a 5-steal performance against 1848. Every game seemed to feature another way for him to impact winning.
Matthew's game is built on making life difficult for the other team. He wants to disrupt passing lanes, contest shots, own the boards, and force opponents out of their comfort zone before turning right around and creating easy baskets for his teammates on the other end. When he spots a mismatch, he attacks without hesitation, but his first thought is always putting the team in the best position to win. That nonstop motor, combined with his 7-foot wingspan, allows him to affect nearly every possession whether he scores or not.
Big names and national rankings never change his approach because his focus never shifts away from what he can control. Matthew welcomes the toughest matchups and embraces the chance to compete against the best. Instead of worrying about who is standing across from him, he locks in on bringing energy, playing hard, and doing everything possible to help his teammates walk away with a win. His confidence comes from preparation, effort, and trusting the work he has put in long before the opening tip.
That competitive fire has been burning for as long as he can remember because basketball is something he truly loves. Winning means more to him than personal numbers, and that mindset shows up every time he steps on the floor. He takes pride in outworking and outhustling his opponents, chasing loose balls, battling for rebounds, and making the extra effort that can swing momentum. Every possession becomes another chance to compete, and he attacks each one with the same relentless energy.
When the game is hanging in the balance, Matthew never worries about who gets the spotlight. If the winning play is taking the last shot, he embraces the moment without fear. If the right play is setting a crushing screen, making the extra pass, or becoming the decoy that frees a teammate for an easy basket, he is just as happy because the only thing that matters to him is winning. That team-first mentality has become one of the biggest reasons he impacts games in so many different ways.
I assess that Matthew brings a complete package that is becoming harder and harder to find. He rebounds with authority, sees the floor extremely well, finishes efficiently, protects the rim, creates extra possessions, and plays with a motor that rarely slows down. His ability to contribute on every column of the stat sheet makes him valuable in any style of game, and his willingness to do the little things separates him from those who only focus on scoring.
Matthew's value goes far beyond his averages because he changes the flow of games without needing the offense built around him. His versatility, toughness, high basketball IQ, and selfless approach allow him to fit alongside any lineup while making everyone around him better. Coaches looking for a fierce competitor who plays to win, embraces every challenge, and impacts the game on both ends of the floor will quickly understand why Matthew continues to be such a vital piece of Fundamental U's success.
