With a fierce motor, physical style, and a knack for showing up around the football, Ruger turned heads this past season by becoming one of the biggest playmakers on his defense and proving he has the tools to be a breakout star. Every snap is played with a fierce motor, relentless energy, and a physical style that makes offenses feel his presence all over the field. Whether he is shooting through a gap, chasing down a ball carrier from sideline to sideline, crashing into the backfield, or dropping into coverage, Ruger has built a reputation as a player who refuses to take a play off. With a breakout season already under his belt and plenty of football still ahead of him, this rising star is quickly becoming a name opposing offenses must account for before the ball is ever snapped.

Last season was a big step forward as Ruger stuffed the stat sheet with 53 tackles, 7 tackles for loss, 3 sacks, an interception, and a forced fumble while leading his team in tackles for loss, sacks, and forced fumbles. Those numbers tell part of the story, but they do not fully show the impact he had on Friday nights. Time after time, he came up with momentum-shifting plays that helped swing games in his team's favor. Whether it was blowing up a play in the backfield, bringing down a quarterback in a key situation, or stepping in front of a pass for an interception, Ruger showed a knack for showing up when his team needed him most. His aggressive style and relentless pursuit allowed him to constantly create problems for opposing offenses while proving he could impact the game in multiple ways.

What makes Ruger such a dynamic linebacker is his versatility. He is not locked into one role or one responsibility. He can stop the run, rush the passer, set the edge, drop into coverage, and make tackles in space. While many defenders excel in one area, Ruger takes pride in being dependable in all phases of the game. Combine that versatility with a nonstop motor, and it becomes easy to see why he is always around the football. His intensity level jumps off the field because he plays every snap like it might be the biggest play of the game.

One of the biggest improvements in his game came mentally. While the physical tools continued to develop, his football IQ took a major step forward. Ruger became more comfortable recognizing formations, reading offensive tendencies, understanding personnel groupings, and identifying what offenses were trying to accomplish before the ball was snapped. That growth allowed him to trust his instincts, react faster, and put himself in position to make more plays. The game started slowing down for him, and when that happens for a linebacker with his motor and toughness, good things usually follow.

The road has not been completely smooth. A collarbone injury forced Ruger to face one of the toughest challenges of his football journey. Instead of letting it discourage him, the setback became a lesson in patience, discipline, and mental toughness. Time away from the game gave him a deeper appreciation for every opportunity to compete and helped strengthen the mindset that now fuels his approach every day. Sometimes adversity reveals what a player is made of, and Ruger used that challenge to become stronger both mentally and physically.

Behind the scenes, the work never stops. Long before the lights come on Friday night, Ruger is investing time in training, film study, recovery, and preparation. He understands that speed, strength, and explosiveness are built long before game day arrives. Just as important, he works to elevate his football IQ so he can continue processing the game faster and playing with confidence. That commitment to improvement is helping lay the foundation for what could be a special upcoming season.

As he prepares for the next season, his goals are to become faster, stronger, and more explosive; continue making game-changing plays; and help lead his team to wins. Ruger wants to be a leader on defense and a player his teammates can count on when the game is on the line. If his growth over the last year is any indication, he is well on his way toward accomplishing those goals.

A coach can expect maximum effort, toughness, accountability, and a player who never stops competing every time Ruger steps on the field. Coaches will get a fierce defender who attacks every snap with purpose, embraces coaching, and is willing to do whatever the team needs to win. They will get a relentless worker, a dependable teammate, and a linebacker who leaves everything he has on the field every single Friday night.

I assess that Ruger is a dynamic linebacker whose production is backed by effort, toughness, and versatility. His ability to impact the game against the run, as a pass rusher, and in coverage makes him a valuable piece for any defense. The growth in his football IQ has elevated his game and allows his physical tools to show up even more consistently. When you combine his motor, instincts, and willingness to do the dirty work, you get a defender who constantly finds ways to impact winning.

Ruger has the makeup of a rising star with breakout potential. He plays with a relentless edge, processes the game well, and consistently puts himself around the football. His ability to diagnose plays before the snap, combined with his physical style and nonstop effort, creates opportunities for impact plays. As he continues getting faster, stronger, and more explosive, expect his production to climb right along with it. The future is bright for this hard-nosed linebacker, and the potential to be one of the leaders of his defense while taking another major step forward this season. Stay tuned.
