Kyson brings the kind of toughness, energy, and winning mentality that coaches dream about having at the point guard position. He is not the type of player obsessed with chasing points or flashy numbers. His focus stays locked on impacting the game in every possible way through hustle, leadership, defense, playmaking, and doing all the little things that directly translate to winning basketball. Every time he steps on the floor, there is a chip on his shoulder and a nonstop motor pushing him to outwork whoever stands in front of him.

Kyson’s game is built around being a true floor general. He controls tempo, makes smart decisions, gets teammates involved, and constantly creates momentum through his effort and toughness. Whether he is diving on the floor for loose balls, taking charges, breaking defenders down off the dribble, or turning defense into offense, his energy becomes contagious for everyone around him. One of the biggest strengths in his game is his ability to make the correct read under pressure. He takes tremendous pride in creating opportunities for teammates while still knowing when to attack and score for himself.

That leadership and steady play helped fuel a tremendous season at James Lawson High School, where Kyson played a major role during the team’s dominant 20-3 stretch run to close out the regular season. James Lawson finished 28-4 overall while building one of the toughest defenses around, consistently holding teams below 50 points while scoring between 60 and 70 themselves. One of the biggest statements came when they completely overwhelmed McGavock High School in a 75-17 victory that showcased just how connected and disciplined the team had become defensively.

Kyson’s ability to control the offense while keeping turnovers low became one of the biggest reasons for the team’s success. His playmaking and poise helped James Lawson win both a District Championship and the TOA Holiday Invitational Tournament title. Throughout the season, his role continued growing because coaches trusted him to settle the offense, push pace when needed, and make winning plays in pressure moments.

That confidence carried directly into the postseason. Hosting playoff games on their home floor added another level of intensity, but Kyson and his teammates embraced the moment. In the opening round against Hendersonville, James Lawson dominated the boards with a 40-19 rebounding advantage and won a hard-fought 55-42 victory. Kyson understood how much work the team had put into preparing for those moments, and seeing it all come together made the postseason atmosphere even more rewarding.

The season eventually came to an end in a physical battle against Beech High School in a win-or-go-home regional matchup. Despite the tough 54-44 loss, the experience only added more fuel moving forward because Kyson fully believes this group is coming back stronger and hungrier next season.

One of the biggest improvements in Kyson’s game throughout the high school season was his ability to push tempo without losing control of the basketball. Learning how to play faster while still making smart reads elevated his effectiveness tremendously, and that growth has now carried directly into AAU with the TN Panthers.

During the Rocky Top Invitational in Gatlinburg, Kyson put together an outstanding all-around weekend while helping the TN Panthers finish 3-1. He averaged 9 points, 6 rebounds, 6.3 assists, and over 2 steals per game while impacting nearly every possession on both ends of the floor. What really clicked for him was turning defense into offense. Sprinting the floor, forcing turnovers, and creating easy opportunities in transition became a huge weapon for both himself and his teammates. His ability to constantly create momentum without forcing shots is what makes his game so valuable.

What separates Kyson from many guards in his class is his willingness to embrace the parts of basketball that many players avoid. While others focus heavily on scoring, Kyson takes pride in sacrificing his body defensively, absorbing contact, making hustle plays, and impacting the game through rebounding, playmaking, and leadership. He understands winning basketball requires much more than simply getting buckets. That mentality allows him to stand out because his impact reaches every area of the floor.

Adversity also played a major role in his development. Early on, Kyson was not viewed as the main guy in the lineup, but instead of becoming frustrated, he attacked the situation head-on. He stayed after practice, worked harder, continued proving himself, and slowly climbed his way up the depth chart through effort and consistency. That grind strengthened both his confidence and mentality because he earned every opportunity through work.

One of the biggest moments of his journey so far came when he stepped up after another guard fouled out late in a game. Kyson delivered the game-winning charge and then calmly made the game-winning free throw to seal the victory. In a pressure-packed moment, he rose to the occasion and showed exactly what kind of competitor he is when the lights are brightest.

This offseason, Kyson’s focus is locked in heavily on explosiveness and athletic development. One goal driving him daily is becoming explosive enough to catch a lob by the end of the summer. That hunger to continue evolving physically while sharpening every part of his game continues pushing him forward every day.

Every time Kyson steps on the floor, coaches can expect a disciplined, team-first point guard that takes tremendous pride in defense, leadership, and winning basketball. A guard that competes with grit, impacts the game far beyond scoring, and constantly does whatever is needed to help his team succeed.

I assess that Kyson brings tremendous value as a gritty two-way floor general who impacts winning through toughness, leadership, defense, playmaking, and efficiency. His ability to control pace while limiting turnovers gives stability to an offense, while his hustle and willingness to sacrifice his body defensively elevate team energy. His rebounding ability, transition play, and defensive instincts allow him to affect games in multiple ways beyond scoring.

Kyson projects as a highly valuable winning guard because of his IQ, toughness, and complete team-oriented approach to the game. His ability to create for teammates, push tempo under control, defend aggressively, and embrace physical basketball gives him tremendous upside moving forward. As his explosiveness and offensive consistency continue developing, his ceiling keeps rising. The combination of leadership, defensive pride, hustle, and playmaking ability makes him a guard coaches trust because he consistently impacts every area needed to win basketball games.
