Carson plays the game with purpose and edge. He is at his best attacking downhill, getting into the paint, and finishing strong at the rim while forcing defenses to react. Once that help comes, he makes them pay by finding teammates in rhythm and delivering the perfect dime. He takes pride in running the offense, controlling pace, and keeping everyone involved. There is a calm authority to how he plays, one that shows up in big moments when the ball needs to be in the right hands.
That control has expanded as his game has evolved. This season, Carson has made a clear commitment to becoming a lockdown defender. Film study has turned into production, with more deflections, more steals, and a better feel for opponents’ tendencies. He plays tight, physical defense, applies pressure without fouling, and makes guards uncomfortable over the course of the game. Defense has become a tone-setter for him, not just an assignment.
The improvement shows in the numbers. Last season, he averaged 9 points, 5 assists, 4 rebounds, and 2 steals per game. This season, those numbers have jumped to 14 points, 7 assists, 8 rebounds, and 3 steals per game, reflecting both increased responsibility and impact. Leadership has been the biggest improvement. He has matured in how he talks to teammates, builds confidence, and keeps the group locked in mentally and physically.
The past two weeks have been a clear snapshot of his value. Last week, he had a filled stat line with 19 points, 5 assists, 9 rebounds, and 4 steals, controlling the game on both ends. This week, he took another step forward with a 24-point performance, adding 7 assists, 5 rebounds, and 6 steals in tournament play. Those games highlighted everything he brings: scoring when needed, playmaking under pressure, rebounding from the guard spot, and defensive activity that flips momentum. Runs start with him, and once his team gets rolling, he is right in the middle of it.
Motivation runs deep. Falling short of a Bi-District title last season still fuels his drive and the team’s push to finish the job. Rival matchups, especially against Caddo Mills, bring an added edge, with packed gyms and energy that Carson embraces. His head coach trusts him to make the right reads, execute what is drawn up, and give full effort for all four quarters. When facing adversity, he slows things down, gets everyone back on the same page, and moves forward to the next play.
Off the court, Carson's family support and guidance from Coach Rodgers have been constant through highs and lows. He enjoys studying the game, watching film, breaking down details, and finding ways to improve, along with spending time with his brothers. The best advice that stuck with him is, "put in more work than anyone over time, and no one will catch you".
Recruitment is moving in the right direction. Carson currently holds an offer from Maine Maritime Academy, where he has also received an academic scholarship. He has been accepted to Pacific University in Forest Grove, Oregon, with an academic scholarship as well, and continues to communicate with college coaches across the country as he prepares for the next level.
I assess that Carson brings downhill pressure, playmaking, and defensive edge to a program. His ability to control the offense, involve teammates, rebound his position, and disrupt opposing guards gives him impact beyond scoring. He sets a steady tone and helps teams function cleanly in competitive stretches.
Moving forward, improved shooting consistency will open even more space for his game. With his leadership growth, defensive commitment, and feel for the floor, Carson is poised to continue rising and make a smooth transition into a college guard who can be trusted to run a team and compete on both ends. Stay tuned.
