"The Full-Throttle Firestarter Who Turns Hustle Into Havoc and Wins Every Inch"

Payton Rollins

@PaytonRollins6

5'9, Class of 2027

South Doyle HS, TN

Payton steps on the floor one way and one way only, full throttle. Every possession, every sprint, every loose ball is attacked with purpose. She plays with nonstop hustle and brings an edge that sets the tone for everyone around her. Offensively, she puts pressure on defenses by getting downhill and finishing at the rim, but she can just as easily rise up and rain in shots when given space. That balance, mixed with intensity that never drops, makes her impact constant from start to finish.

This past season was a statement in every sense. Payton had 593 points, 201 rebounds, 76 assists, and 65 steals, telling the story of a player who checked every box of the game. It wasn’t just numbers piling up, but production that led to winning. A 20-win season, only the second time in school history, speaks to how much she impacts the outcome night after night. Confidence carried over from previous seasons, and it showed early. She came in ready and never looked back.

There are games, then there are moments that stamp who a player is. That 37-point performance with 5 threes, 9 rebounds, 4 assists, 3 steals, zero turnovers, and a blistering 60 percent shooting was one of those. Everything was clicking, and even then, it wasn’t about chasing numbers. It was about playing the right way, making the right reads, and letting the game unfold. The crazy part is that it didn’t even take a full fourth quarter to do it.

Recognition followed. Ranked the number one point guard in the Class of 2027 and earning Blue Star 30 status, those are major milestones. But for Payton, it’s not a finish line. It’s fuel. It started building back in middle school and kept growing, but the mindset never changed. Stay hungry. Keep working. Keep chasing the next opportunity. The goal is bigger than rankings. It’s about getting to the next level and competing.

The gritty side of her game is where everything separates. The things that don’t always show up on the stat sheet are the ones she takes the most pride in—locking in defensively and being a pest and crashing the boards and battling for every rebound, getting deflections, hitting the floor for loose balls, doing the things others avoid. That’s where games are won, and she embraces every bit of it.

Adversity hit before the season even got going. A meniscus injury led to surgery, and she played through a lot before that. Rehab tested patience and determination, but she came back stronger. Faith and family carried her through that stretch, along with a deep drive to get back on the court. That kind of setback either slows you down or builds you up. For her, it built something stronger.

Improvement showed up in her shooting. She already had the ability to get to the basket, use her handles, and create space for step-back threes. Adding a consistent pull-up jumper took her game to another level. That made her even harder to guard and gave her more ways to attack in big moments.

Postseason brought pride and hunger at the same time. Finishing with the second-best season in school history meant something, but it also left more to chase. Getting further than the previous year became the focus, and now the target is to reach the state tournament and keep pushing beyond it.

Now heading into AAU with East TN Air 27, that same mindset carries over. The Marble City Invitational showed flashes of everything coming together. Confidence, production, and control. The goal now is simple. Prove she can do it all at a high level against top competition. Score when needed, rebound, defend, make plays, and compete every second.

Looking ahead, there’s no mystery about what you’re getting. A player who gives everything she has every time she steps on the court. Someone who will chase rebounds, create steals, knock down shots, and outwork whoever is in front of her. The work is real, and it shows.

I assess that Payton is a high-motor guard who impacts every phase of the game with effort, toughness, and versatility. Her ability to produce with scoring, rebounding, playmaking, and defense makes her extremely valuable. She thrives in the details that others overlook and brings a level of intensity that raises the standard for her team. Her evolution as a shooter adds another layer that makes her even tougher to defend.

Payton has a strong foundation to continue rising as a complete guard. Her grit, work ethic, and willingness to do everything needed to win separate her. Continued development in shot consistency and decision-making will elevate her even further. With her mindset and all-around production, she brings a winning impact that translates well to the next level.
