Winning has a way of revealing things that stats sometimes cannot, and Will learned that firsthand while helping lead his JV team to a perfect 24-0 season. The undefeated run was about much more than wins and losses. It showed him the value of chemistry, leadership, and what can happen when a group completely buys into each other. As one of the vocal leaders on the team, Will saw how energy, communication, and effort could help drive success. That experience continues to fuel him as he works toward earning a bigger role on varsity.
What stands out most about Will's game is the combination of shooting, basketball IQ, and relentless energy. He is the type of player who understands how to impact a game without needing the ball in his hands every second. His ability to stretch the floor with his shooting forces defenses to pay attention, and when he gets rolling, he can heat up in a hurry. Combine that with a strong understanding of the game and a willingness to make the right play, and you have a player who consistently helps his team function at a higher level. While many players focus on individual success, Will takes pride in making smart decisions, playing hard, and doing whatever it takes to help his team win.
One of the biggest areas of improvement this past season came on the defensive end. Will worked hard to improve his movement, become more athletic, and guard at a higher level. Those improvements have allowed him to become a more complete player and impact games in more ways than simply making shots. The added confidence on defense is helping round out his game and making him a tougher matchup on both ends of the floor.
Like many players fighting for opportunities, Will has had to overcome challenges along the way. One of the biggest has been competing against athletes who may naturally have more speed, explosiveness, or physical tools. Instead of allowing that to become an excuse, he used it as motivation. It taught him that skill development, effort, toughness, and work ethic can help close the gap. That mindset continues to drive him every day and has helped shape the player he is becoming.
This AAU season, Will has been playing with Union Nxt Pro and continuing to build momentum. He has been shooting the ball well, attacking the basket more aggressively, and showing he can impact winning in multiple ways. While scoring remains a strength, his focus is proving he can contribute across the board and bring value wherever his team needs it. Every game becomes another opportunity to keep developing and earning respect.
The behind-the-scenes work reflects the goals he has set for himself. Countless hours in the gym elevating his shooting, improving his finishing, and building confidence around the basket have become part of the routine. Add in consistent strength training and a focus on improving his athleticism, and it becomes clear that Will is not waiting around for opportunities to appear, but working to create them.
What makes his story interesting is the way he approaches competition. While some players get caught up in rankings, attention, and outside opinions, Will uses all of it as fuel. Being overlooked does not discourage him. If anything, it pushes him harder. He embraces the challenge of proving himself and understands that every practice, workout, and game is another chance to show what he can do.
Heading into the offseason, the goals are to gain weight, get stronger, become more athletic, and continue preparing for a larger role on varsity. Will believes he can make a positive impact when given the opportunity, and he is putting in the work necessary to be ready when that moment arrives. With his shooting ability, high motor, improving all-around game, and team-first mindset, he is positioning himself to be a player worth keeping an eye on.
I assess that Will is a high-IQ guard who brings value through his shooting, energy, and understanding of the game. He plays with intensity, makes smart decisions, and consistently looks for ways to help his team win. The improvements he has made defensively and athletically have added more balance to his game, and his willingness to embrace hard work continues to separate him from many players with the same goals.
Will may not be the flashiest player on the floor, but he is the type of player coaches love having on their team. He can stretch defenses with his shooting, plays with toughness, and understands how to impact winning without forcing the action. His commitment to improving his athleticism, strength, and overall game should continue opening doors as he moves forward. As his role expands and his confidence grows, don't be surprised to see him become an important piece for any team he steps onto because players who combine skill, effort, and a team-first mentality always find ways to make an impact. Stay tuned.
