Owensby is an explosive, combo guard that can light it up on all three levels. He has a velvety smooth touch from three point range, and is fierce off the bounce. He has the ability to pull-up on a dime or finish strong to the rim. He is not just a scorer though. He is a solid all round threat, who will play hard defense, rebound, make the right passes and score. He possesses an exceptionally high game IQ and he has amazing court vision. He can read both an offense and defense and just pick a team apart on both sides of the ball. He is sneaky like a thief in the night with steals. Eli loves getting out in transition, fueling the fast break and scoring or masterfully setting his teammates up with slick passes.
Last season Eli averaged 11.1 points, 3.1 rebounds, 3.0 assists per game earning himself All district, All District tournament and All Region tournament honors, on a loaded Maryville squad. Making it to the State Tournament and not finishing the drill has the kid absolutely fired up for this upcoming season, and he is going to do everything in his power to not allow history to repeat itself.
Playing AAU for Pro One, he has excelled and been a huge part of the success of yet another loaded team he has been a part of. This kid is a sponge to good coaching and truly is thriving in the team concept of this Pro One squad. This team is relentless on defense and an extremely unselfish group that's very tough to beat.
Many players are very good at one thing, however as mentioned above, he excels at passing, rebounding, shooting and playing defense. He is calm, cool and collected on the court, and always remains focused and poised no matter the score or how much time is left on the clock.
When asked what a coach can expect from him, he said “A tough player who plays hard on both sides of the ball. I am unselfish, and whether it is myself or one of my teammates scoring, all that matters to me is that the team gets the win.” This kid is just a fierce, fiery competitor who plays with a high motor and a strong passion to win. He is willing to roll up his sleeves and get dirty. He has that willingness to do whatever is asked of him. He is consistent and confident, but not cocky at all. That makes him very dangerous.
His dream is to play D1 ball in college, and he has both the hunger and drive as well as the work ethic to make that dream become a reality. He doesn’t allow anything to distract him or slow him down. He pushes himself harder that any coach ever could, and he holds himself to a very high standard both on and off the court. There is no ceiling or limit to how high this young star can fly. Please mark my words when I say that this kid is going to accomplish BIG things in the future. Stay tuned!
