TJ is the type of guard that instantly changes the energy inside a gym the moment he steps on the floor. He is explosive, fearless, unpredictable, and relentless. His game attacks defenders from every angle, whether it is blowing by defenders off the bounce, rising up with elite athleticism, creating offense for teammates, or turning defensive pressure into momentum-changing plays. Every possession feels fast when TJ gets rolling because his combination of athleticism, toughness, pace, and aggression constantly puts pressure on defenses.
What makes TJ so dangerous is the fact that his impact goes far beyond scoring. His energy becomes contagious. His defensive intensity disrupts everything. His ability to control the game as a vocal point guard keeps teams organized while still allowing him to attack when the moment demands it. He plays with a competitive edge that never cools off.
This past season at Providence Christian Academy was another huge chapter in his growth, as he helped lead PCA to back-to-back state championships. Stepping fully into the point guard role, TJ elevated his overall game while embracing more leadership responsibilities throughout the season. He averaged 13 points and 3.4 assists per game while consistently setting the tone with his explosiveness, pace, and ability to impact both ends of the floor.
Winning another state championship remains one of the biggest moments of his basketball journey so far because it validated the work, sacrifice, and togetherness it took to stay on top. Back-to-back titles are never easy, especially when expectations grow larger, and everybody is chasing you every single night. TJ embraced that pressure and stepped into a much bigger role within the offense while continuing to grow as a leader and floor general.
One of the biggest improvements in his game during the high school season came through becoming more vocal and learning how to fully control the pace and direction of the game. Understanding when to attack for his own offense and when to create opportunities for teammates helped unlock another level in his development. That balance has now carried directly into EYBL play with Team Thad, where his confidence and production have exploded.
This summer, TJ has been on a tear during EYBL competition. His ability to shoot the basketball at a much higher level has completely changed the way defenders have to guard him. Coming off Session 2, he has been hitting shots at a high clip while also providing major positive plus/minus minutes every time he steps on the floor. His improved perimeter shooting, stronger mid-range game, and ability to finish over taller defenders have all become major weapons within his offensive arsenal.
The work behind that breakout did not happen overnight. TJ’s athletic transformation has been fueled by nonstop work in the weight room and relentless commitment to development. The grind became something he embraced instead of feared. Two-a-day workouts, strength training, explosiveness work, and countless hours sharpening his body all helped elevate his athleticism to another level. Now with a 44-inch vertical, TJ’s bounce and explosiveness separate him immediately whenever he attacks the rim or rises above defenders in transition. But the athleticism is only part of the story. The discipline behind the work is what truly separates him.
Adversity still tested him heavily throughout the year. Missing the summer because of injuries created major frustration early on because valuable development time disappeared. On top of that, stepping into the starting point guard role while battling against stronger and more physical players forced him to adjust quickly mentally and physically. Instead of allowing those challenges to hold him back, TJ attacked them directly by continuing to work, getting stronger, and trusting the process until everything started clicking again.
One of the achievements TJ takes the most pride in is shooting 35 percent from three during the high school season, while also shooting a blistering 65 percent during EYBL Session 2, with his game-high 16 points against the Georgia Stars. Those numbers reflect how much his offensive game continues evolving and how dangerous he is becoming at every level of the floor.
This offseason, TJ’s goals remain aggressive. Adding more weight and strength sits near the top of the list while continuing to chase D1 opportunities. One major goal driving him every single day is earning at least 3 D1 offers while continuing to prove he belongs among elite guards on the national stage.
Every time TJ Duke steps onto the floor, coaches can expect a vocal point guard, an explosive athlete, and an aggressive two-way competitor that plays with relentless energy. They can expect a guard willing to pressure defenders, attack the game physically, lead vocally, and become a complete pest defensively from start to finish.
And for everybody watching his journey moving forward, TJ’s message is simple. Keep working, keep believing, and keep separating yourself through effort because the grind always shows itself eventually.
I assess that TJ brings tremendous value as an explosive two-way point guard with elite athleticism, improving shot-making, defensive intensity, and growing leadership qualities. His ability to attack downhill, finish through contact, create for teammates, and disrupt defensively gives him impact on every possession. His improved perimeter shooting, combined with his explosiveness, makes him increasingly difficult to contain offensively.
TJ is poised to be a high-IQ guard whose combination of athleticism, toughness, confidence, and work ethic continues pushing his ceiling higher. His transition into a vocal floor general while improving his shooting and decision-making has elevated his overall game tremendously. As his physical strength and offensive consistency continue evolving, his ability to impact winning at higher levels becomes even more dangerous. The combination of explosiveness, defensive pressure, leadership, and relentless competitiveness gives TJ the tools to continue rising as a major next-level prospect.
