“The Deep Range Disruptor:The Relentless Two-Way Sniper Taking Over"

Zak Loehlein

@Zac2shifty_1

6'1, 175lbs, Class of 2028

Prior Lake HS, MN

AAU: MN Select

Zak brings the type of fearless offensive firepower and relentless defensive energy that immediately changes the tone of a game the second he steps on the floor. Every possession feels dangerous when the ball touches his hands because he has the ability to score from anywhere on the court while also creating opportunities for everyone around him. Defenders cannot relax for even a second because Zak can rise and rain in shots from deep range, attack defenders off the bounce, create offense in transition, and pressure opponents constantly with his intensity on the defensive end. What makes him such a dangerous two-way guard is not only his scoring ability, but the complete impact he creates on both sides of the floor. He brings confidence, pace, energy, communication, and pressure every minute he plays. Whether he is locking onto the opposing team’s best player defensively or stretching the floor offensively with unlimited shooting range, Zak has the type of game that forces teams to adjust to him instead of the other way around.

The biggest part of Zak’s game that he takes pride in is his shooting ability because he understands how valuable a lethal shooter becomes in pressure moments and close battles. There is a fearless confidence in the way he shoots the basketball that immediately stands out, especially when defenders try crowding him or forcing him into difficult situations. Zak embraces those moments instead of shying away from them. His ability to consistently hit shots from deep changes spacing, opens driving lanes for teammates, and forces defenses into uncomfortable situations. What makes his shooting even more dangerous is that it comes with the ability to create for others and make plays off movement instead of standing still waiting for opportunities.

His basketball journey throughout the high school season and now into AAU basketball with Minnesota Select has been filled with steady growth and increasing confidence. Zak spent much of the school season competing on JV, where he averaged around 16 points per game while also earning valuable varsity opportunities that helped elevate his understanding of the speed and physicality of higher-level basketball. Those experiences helped elevate his confidence while preparing him for the jump into AAU competition. Now running track while competing with Minnesota Select, Zak has continued building momentum in his development while embracing the challenge of stronger competition and bigger moments. The chemistry with his teammates and coaches has only added to that growth because he genuinely enjoys being around the group while continuing to elevate his game every weekend.

At the Prep Hoops Upper Midwest Finals, Zak completely turned heads with his shooting display and overall floor impact. His jumper was absolutely on fire throughout the event, as he shot around 50 percent from three over the weekend while consistently creating momentum-changing plays for Minnesota Select. Every time defenders tried going under screens or helping too aggressively, Zak made them pay instantly from deep range. What made the performance even more impressive was the confidence and rhythm he played with. There was no hesitation in his game. He trusted his work, trusted his mechanics, and attacked every opportunity aggressively. That confidence spread throughout the team and helped Minnesota Select maintain offensive pressure during key stretches of games.

Over the last year, one of the biggest improvements in Zak’s game has been his ability to control pace and dictate the rhythm of the floor. Instead of rushing situations or forcing action, he has learned how to slow the game down mentally while still attacking aggressively when opportunities appear. That growth has allowed him to become more effective as both a scorer and playmaker because he understands when to speed defenses up and when to stay patient. Combined with his instincts, anticipation, passing ability, and defensive pressure, Zak’s all-around impact has continued growing every month.

Like every athlete, Zak faced adversity throughout the season, especially during a difficult start where his team struggled to win games consistently. Instead of allowing frustration to consume him, he learned something bigger through those experiences because he realized development and improvement matter just as much as wins and losses. That mindset helped shape a more mature outlook moving forward while teaching him to focus on daily growth, preparation, and confidence instead of only results. Adversity became something that strengthened his mentality instead of weakening it.

Some of Zak’s biggest moments and achievements so far came during the Prep Hoops Upper Midwest Finals, where he gained good exposure while playing some of his best basketball of the season. Performing at a high level against strong competition gave him another boost of confidence and showed exactly how dangerous his game can become moving forward. His biggest goals heading into the offseason revolve around continuing to become a lethal shooter from anywhere on the floor while elevating every area of his game even further. He wants defenders to know there is no safe distance when guarding him because he fully believes in his ability to shoot confidently from wherever and whenever the opportunity appears.

Looking ahead toward next season, coaches, teammates, and fans can expect a fierce competitor who embraces defensive assignments, communicates constantly, and plays with nonstop energy. Zak wants the challenge of guarding the opposing team’s best player while also spacing the floor offensively and creating momentum with his shooting. His voice, encouragement, and leadership are just as important as the points he scores because he understands strong teams are built through connection and belief in each other. Every time Zak steps on the court, he brings confidence, toughness, and the mentality of a player ready for the biggest moments.

Zak Loehlein is a highly impactful two-way guard whose shooting ability immediately changes defensive game plans. His deep range, confidence, pace control, and ability to affect both ends of the floor make him extremely valuable in competitive games. He competes defensively, communicates well, and continues to show strong development as a decision-maker and leader. His ability to combine outside scoring with defensive intensity gives Minnesota Select a player capable of swinging momentum quickly.

Looking ahead to next season, coaches, teammates, and fans can expect a fierce competitor who embraces guarding the opposing team’s best player while bringing nonstop energy, communication, toughness, and deep shooting range every time he steps on the floor. Zak’s confidence continues growing, and with his ability to knock down shots from anywhere while creating pressure defensively, he is becoming a dangerous weapon whenever the lights get brighter. Stay tuned.
