Some point guards run an offense, and some become the heartbeat of everything happening on the floor, but Preston has a unique ability to do both, controlling the game with his playmaking while setting the tone with his leadership, toughness, and competitive fire. Every possession seems to move to the rhythm he creates, whether that means carving up a defense with a perfectly timed dime, raining in a shot from deep, attacking a gap before it closes, or locking up the opposing ball handler when his team needs a stop. He is an ultra-competitive floor general whose game is built around winning first and everything else second. While many guards chase numbers, Preston chases control of the game, and that mindset has allowed him to develop into one of the most complete lead guards around. His ability to score at all three levels keeps defenders honest, but it is his vision, leadership, and willingness to make those around him better that truly separate him from the crowd.

The season was filled with milestones, growth, and validation. Earning 5A All-Region Second Team honors, finishing among the state's leaders in assists, shooting a blistering 48 percent from three-point range, leading his team in assists during regional play, and helping fuel one of the top-scoring teams around were all results of countless hours invested behind the scenes. At American Fork, he found himself in a system built around movement, unselfishness, and trust. Despite not having imposing size on the roster, the team played connected basketball, sharing the ball and attacking as one unit. The chemistry, coaching, and commitment to winning created an environment where Preston thrived. Being part of one of the state's most dangerous duos made the journey even more meaningful because it was shared with a lifelong friend. Watching years of work, friendship, and sacrifice come together on the biggest stages created memories that will last far beyond the final buzzer.

That momentum has carried directly into the AAU season with Salt City Hustle, where the competitive fire continues to burn. Preston speaks highly of the Mulford family and the culture they have built, and it is easy to see why. The roster is loaded with talent and toughness, with players capable of stepping up at any moment. The results have followed. An undefeated run during the UA Rise Live Period only strengthened the belief that this team has a legitimate opportunity to compete for a championship. While individual performances always matter, Preston's biggest takeaway from the event had nothing to do with personal numbers. Winning remains the focus. The confidence gained from going toe-to-toe with some of the best teams in the country and coming out on top only reinforced what he already believed about the team.

One of the biggest reasons for his continued rise has been his defensive transformation. While his scoring and playmaking often grab attention first, the work he has put into the defensive end has elevated his entire game. Spending countless hours guarding college-level and DI-caliber players forced him to elevate every aspect of his defensive approach. The result is a guard who now takes pride in making life miserable for opposing ball handlers. His on-ball defense has become more physical, more disciplined, and far more impactful. When combined with his offensive skill set, it gives him the ability to impact winning on both ends of the floor.

The path was not without challenges. Transferring schools brought uncertainty, difficult decisions, and moments that tested his resolve. Searching for the right fit while keeping championship goals in focus was not always easy, but Preston leaned on his faith and trusted in his Heavenly Father throughout the process. Rather than allowing adversity to distract him, he used it as motivation. Looking back, the decision helped shape one of the most successful stretches of his basketball journey and reinforced the importance of staying faithful when the road ahead is unclear.

Among all the accomplishments, receiving that first college offer remains the moment that stands tallest for a player who has dreamed about competing at the next level for as long as he can remember; that offer represented validation that the work was paying off. It was more than a recruiting milestone. It was confirmation that the vision he had carried for years was beginning to become reality. Instead of creating comfort, however, it fueled an even bigger hunger to continue improving.

This offseason, the mission remains to add strength, add muscle, continue developing physically, and help bring home a UA Rise championship. Every workout, every rep, and every game carries purpose. Coaches can expect a leader who values winning above everything else, a teammate who elevates those around him, and a competitor who refuses to back down from any challenge. They can expect a point guard who embraces responsibility, welcomes pressure, and understands how to impact a game long before the stat sheet tells the story.

I assess that Preston is a high-level playmaking point guard who combines scoring ability, leadership, defensive intensity, and basketball IQ into one complete package. His ability to shoot efficiently from deep stretches defenses, while his vision and feel for the game consistently create opportunities for teammates. He understands tempo, makes winning plays, and possesses the competitive edge coaches want leading their team. The growth he has shown defensively has added another layer to an already impressive skill set, increasing his overall value.

College programs looking for a true floor general should have Preston on their radar. He has the ability to control pace, create offense, defend his position, and bring stability to a lineup. His combination of toughness, leadership, shot-making, and unselfish play translates to winning basketball.
