6’3, 170pds, Class of 2026

East Columbus HS, NC

Rudy is a versatile, high-motor guard who plays the game with pace, confidence, and toughness. He is comfortable scoring at all three levels while also keeping teammates involved, showing a strong feel for when to attack and when to create. His ball handling and court vision allow him to manage pressure, and his on-ball defense sets a steady tone on the perimeter. Rudy plays with composure, stays under control, and consistently looks to make the right play when the game gets tight.

Rudy is coming off a 20-point performance and averages 3.8 rebounds per game, bringing value beyond just scoring. His biggest improvement has been his confidence and leadership, becoming more comfortable running the team, communicating on both ends, and stepping up in important moments. He has focused on tightening his handles, extending his shooting range, improving his finishing through contact, and adding strength as he continues to develop into a more complete guard.

Rudy wears 13 with purpose, pride, and deep loyalty stitched into every possession. He always said 13 was never an unlucky number, but a number that represents true skill, belief, and heart, and he plays that way every single time he steps on the floor. Now that number carries even more weight, worn in honor of his grandpa, Frank Hernandez, whose legacy lives on through Rudy’s game. It became his number sophomore year, and it is one he will continue to wear with pride, carrying family, memory, and meaning into every moment. Thirteen isn’t just on his jersey, it’s in his effort, his toughness, and the way he plays for something bigger than himself.

One of the most impactful parts of Rudy’s season has been learning how to stay composed under pressure. With more attention on him, he has embraced the responsibility, learning to adapt and perform even when nerves are present. He approaches every game with the same competitive mindset, locking in defensively, making winning plays, and bringing energy whether he is on the floor or supporting teammates from the bench. His approach is simple and consistent, maximum effort, leadership, coachability, and a winning mindset.

Rudy is motivated by the opportunity to keep growing as a player and leader and to achieve his goal of playing college basketball. He looks forward to competing at a high level, reaching team goals, and continuing to build his game the right way. Off the court, he enjoys spending time with family and friends, fishing, and working outside, keeping balance and perspective away from the game. He currently holds offers and interests from Lees-McRae College, Ecclesia College, Regent University, Sandhills Community College, and Averett University.

I assess that Rudy brings value as a reliable guard who can score, defend, and organize an offense while maintaining composure in pressure situations. His leadership, defensive focus, and willingness to do what the team needs make him a strong fit for programs looking for stability and competitive edge in the backcourt.

As Rudy continues to add strength and consistency from deep, his impact will keep growing. Expect a guard who plays with control, responds well to adversity, and steadily elevates his game through preparation and effort. His mindset and approach point toward continued progress and meaningful contribution at the next level.
