Jack Brewer knows how to make a defender pay for giving him space. The savvy guard can rain in threes, and once those shots start falling, he attacks off the bounce with speed, strength, and the bounce to finish through contact. He plays with his own pace, uses his athleticism when an opening is there, and can drop a dime to a teammate when the defense turns its attention to him.

Jack averaged 10 points per game as a junior and shot better than 40 percent from three in district play. Langham narrowly missed the playoffs, but he gave people a look at what he could do with 26 points and 8 rebounds against Ridge Point and 21 points in a big district game against Cy Ranch. Those games left him hungry for more heading into his senior season.

His biggest improvements have come through added strength, tighter handles, and the ability to create his own shot one-on-one. Jack earned All-District and All-Cypress honors, averaged 32 points over two tournaments last summer, and helped take down Austin Westlake, the No. 1 team in Austin, at the Cy Hoops tournament. Each of those moments gave him another reason to trust the work he has put into his game.

That work has taken patience through three ankle sprains in the past two years. The setbacks slowed his progress, but Jack stayed consistent with his recovery and kept building in the weight room. He's spent this offseason sharpening his ball-handling and working on shots off the bounce and the catch, giving him more ways to make an impact when the season begins.

His days often start with a workout before school and continue in the gym as soon as classes end. Jack gets up as many shots as he can and works with trainer Andrew Nguyen whenever they can get together. He also takes pride in his one-on-one defense, which drew attention at his first All N One camp, and he wants that side of his game to stand out even more this season.

Jack wants to win district, get his team into the playoffs, and make a deep run. He's also chasing first-team All-District honors and a major award such as Offensive Player of the Year or district MVP. A coach can count on him to give his best to every assignment and make sacrifices that help the team win. His family fuels that drive, and Jack plays with the hope of earning an opportunity to give back to them.

I assess that Jack has a knack for changing the way a defender has to guard him. His shooting demands attention beyond the arc, while his patience lets him choose the right moment to attack instead of forcing the action. That mix gives him a chance to create offense even when the first look is gone.

The coming season gives Jack a chance to show how much his game has grown from one possession to the next. His willingness to take pride in the work that rarely gets attention says plenty about the teammate he wants to be, and his competitive drive should make him fun to watch when the games matter most. Get your popcorn ready for the show. Stay tuned.
