Cal plays the game with confidence, feel, and a steady attacking mindset that keeps defenses guessing every possession. As a true all-around offensive force, he stretches the floor with lethal shooting from deep, then punishes defenders the moment they overplay it. When lanes open, he attacks off the bounce with intent, creating open looks, whether that means finishing at the rim, delivering the ball to a teammate, or rising into a smooth middy. His ability to read coverage on the fly and make the right decision gives him real value as a playmaker, not just a scorer. Every trip down the floor comes with purpose, and his motor never stops, regardless of whether shots are falling.
After averaging 8.2 points, 2.1 rebounds, 1.1 assists, .7 deflections, and .7 steals last year, Cal has taken a major step forward. This season, he is averaging 18.9 points per game while shooting a blistering 41.3 percent from three and 48.0 percent from two, adding 4.9 rebounds, 2.6 assists, and shooting 81.1 percent from the free-throw line. The biggest improvement has shown in his overall impact on both ends. While defense remains an area of focus, he is more reliable, more engaged, and far more effective than he was a season ago.
That growth has been fueled by an offseason dedicated to ball handling, strength, and speed. Those three areas are treated as non-negotiables, and the work shows in how confidently he handles pressure and how consistently he stays involved throughout games. Last season ended in heartbreak with a buzzer-beater loss in the state quarterfinals, but instead of lingering, that moment elevated the group’s belief in what is possible. The expectation now is a deep playoff run, and Cal approaches every game with that standard in mind.
Certain matchups bring extra edge, and Rockhurst is one he always circles. Familiar faces, a quality opponent, and a high-level challenge bring out his competitive fire. Coaches know exactly what they are getting every time he steps on the floor, full effort, steady energy, and a mindset that never wavers. When momentum is slipping, he feeds off the gritty plays that change a game, taking charges, finishing through contact, or converting a tough and one that sparks the group. When facing adversity, his focus turns to his teammates, reinforcing the belief that staying together keeps anything from breaking them.
Off the court, Cal enjoys spending time with friends, rounds of golf, and talking sports help him reset and stay balanced. With recruiting, his interest has been limited so far, but D3 remains a realistic path, with Chapman University standing out as a strong point of interest.
I assess that Cal brings value as a versatile offensive guard who can score, facilitate, and keep an offense flowing without forcing the game. His shooting ability opens space for others, and his willingness to impact games beyond scoring makes him a piece coaches can trust within structure.
Cal plays within himself and brings a steady presence every time he is on the floor. His offensive game continues to evolve, and his comfort making reads has improved. As he keeps getting stronger and quicker, his overall impact should keep rising. He does the little things, stays connected to his teammates, and gives a coach someone they can trust to compete and stay solid. Cal is on a mission to get back to the state tournament and avenge that heartbreaking loss to bring home that championship. Stay tuned.
