Steven is a defense-first guard with the size, speed, and energy to impact the game in unique ways. He often takes on the challenge of guarding point guards, using his quick footwork and motor to disrupt plays before they even start. Known as the loudest voice on the floor and the bench, he thrives as an energy guy, bringing life to every possession. His versatility allows him to play any position from 1 through 5, and he combines his defensive fire with a strong three-point shot and the ability to score in the paint when needed.

This past season, Steven averaged 14 points, 4 rebounds, 4 steals, and 2 blocks per game, while hitting two three-pointers a night. His biggest improvement has been adding strength to his finishing and rebounding, along with developing the ability to dunk and battle in the post against bigger players. Focused on growth, he’s determined to continue building muscle, improving his shot-blocking, and taking his physical presence to the next level.

Opportunities with the North American University basketball program have been huge, as Steven trained with Associate Head Coach Brode Hopkins and joined summer workouts under Head Coach Doze. Competing with college players pushed his game forward and proved he could perform at that level. His AAU goals with the Houston Raptors are focused on showcasing his complete skill set in front of college coaches during live periods, especially at events like the GASO tournaments.

Steven embraces adversity head-on. Living with autism has brought doubt from coaches and peers in the past, but his determination to prove people wrong has fueled him. Once ranked #29 in the Greater Houston area by RCS as a freshman, he earned that respect by holding his own against some of the city’s best talent. His motto, “clapping and trapping,” captures the joy he finds in locking down opponents, forcing five-second calls, turnovers, and shot clock violations that energize both him and his team.

Off the court, Steven has poured his personality into his own merch brand, Big Steve Energy, which reflects his relentless defensive mindset. The best advice he has received is to "Get 5% better every day.” he carries the hunger to continue climbing. For him, the journey is about proving that energy, defense, and heart can separate him and open doors at the next level.

I assess that Steven’s defensive motor, versatility, and vocal leadership make him an asset for any college program. His ability to guard multiple positions, space the floor with a reliable three-point shot, and bring unmatched energy ensures he will influence games well beyond the stat sheet.

With continued focus on adding strength and elevating his shot-blocking ability, Steven has the tools to become a matchup nightmare on both ends. His resilience in the face of adversity, along with his growth mindset, he is poised to be a difference-maker at the next level—an athlete who can raise the competitive edge of any team he joins. Stay tuned for a breakout season ahead.
