Tanner is an absolute match-up nightmare as a versatile big that absolutely dominates with an all-around well-rounded skill set. Tanner can stretch the defense with his outside shooting ability keeping the defense honest. Tanner runs the floor very well with a non-stop high motor. On the block, he is an opposing force who gains position early, has nice footwork, athleticism, and back-to-the-basket crafty work; he is dominant. With an array of finishing moves and a nasty first step when he attacks the rim. Tanner has an impressive mid-range game that, with his length, is super tough to defend. Tanner is a passing man not just one dimensional as a scorer. A beast on the boards and a solid defender. Tanner is also a vocal leader on every team plays for.
Some hobbies Tanner has outside of basketball are watching sports, camping, golfing, lifting, watching movies, and hanging out with friends.
This past seasonTanner averaged 11.3ppg, 7.9 reb per game, 1.6 blocks per game, on 52% shooting from the field. Tanner's biggest improvement from last year to now is he is more comfortable and confident with the ball, able to be patient down low, and let things develop on the court before making his decision. Tanner is also able to make a confident decision when driving to the lane because he is more comfortable dribbling outside of the paint. Tanner's biggest basketball accomplishments are starting on varsity as a sophomore, making 2nd team All-Conference, and averaging nearly a double-double in the same season.
Playing AAU for the Drive Pro Select, Tanner averaged 15 points and 8 rebounds per game establishing his continued improvement in his game and setting the stage for a breakout season.
The biggest rival that Tanner is looking forward to playing this season is Union High School. There are a few players that are on his AAU team, which makes it very competitive year-round. Both their teams will be in contention to win the conference so he is very excited. Tanner's goals for the upcoming season are to average at least 20 points per game as well as 10+ rebounds per game. Another goal is to get 1st team All-Conference, first-team All-District, and Conference MVP. Tanner's biggest challenge to achieving these goals is going to be his mindset and our team’s strength of schedule during the regular season. Tanner feels his team can make a deep tournament run because they are returning most of our players from last year’s team. While they only won 3 games, they are looking to turn it around this year. Tanner knows it will take a lot of concentration and hard work during practice to get them ready for in-game situations.
The thing that fires Tanner up the most on the court is when he goes on a 6-10-point run by himself. This just makes Tanner feel more confident about the game and how it’s going to go. Tanner also likes when the crowd is getting into it while they are playing at a high level on the court
When Tanner is faced with adversity he is able to overcome it by just simply moving on from it. Tanner is able to just take a breath and just continue to play his game and do his job.
The best piece of advice Tanner ever heard is you need to control what you can control and move on. Well said!!
As a player right now Tanner feels like he is comfortably a D2 basketball player. Tanner feels this way because his skills are very improved, and he has developed them to play at the D2 level, but he needs to get better to play at a higher level than that. To reach the next level, Tanner feels he will need to have a good work ethic, a good mindset, and a good attitude toward all of his peers.
Tanner currently has no offers or visits but has had a handful of D2 schools reach out to his AAU coach.
I assess that Tanner is developing nicely and has a realistic view of where he is but a hunger and passion to keep evolving and improving his game. Tanner's potential is extremely high and could turn interest into offers very quickly this upcoming season with consistent dominant play that builds on current success rate. individually. Tanner has shown improvement since last season, evidence he has yet to reach his ceiling. Stay tuned for what is likely as I stand behind the breakout season.
