Russell is the next upcoming pancake master who is aggressive and quick. Russell understands his size and strength are a gift from God, a fierce weapon, and isn't afraid to use it accordingly. Russell bulldozes his opponents with overwhelming power and puts them on their backs with ease. On the defensive side, he is still a mountain you don't want to see coming after you that hits with power and intent with no escape.
What Russell brings to the field is a downhill punishing attack, playing his gap, understanding his responsibility, and not over-pursuing. He is a master at forcing the runners back inside for his teammates to swallow up the play if he cannot.
As a freshman Russell is the starting left tackle and a starting defensive end. Russell's biggest improvement from last season was continuing to get better with the mindset that this isn't a part-time thing; he has attended 6 camps in the offseason to help elevate his skills and technique to their fullest potential. Russell is mastering his footspeed and hand placement.
Russell handles adversity through his faith and trust in God. Russell has faced plenty of it already. Russell broke his collarbone last season, and through this experience, Russell strengthened his relationship with God, trusting his plan through downtime and recovery. In a time when Russell could have been down and discouraged he kept himself in the hands of the only one who could help and restored him to full strength to get back to doing what he loves so much. Russell went on to earn All-Conference in the 8th grade!
What fuels Russell's fire the most is to make every single play or impact consistently and fuel the aggression of others which makes him hungrier and hungrier. He has an unquenchable desire to compete with purpose and passion to dominate.
A coach can count on Russell to give 110% not only in games but in practice. They will quickly see they can trust Russell to lead by example. He will bring a dominant presence on both sides of the ball determined to be a one-man wrecking crew or control plays in ways his teammates can still reap the reward of his impact.
Russell sees himself playing D1 and wouldn't consider or settle for anything less. He says, "That would mean I didn't give my all."To make a school stand out to Russell it would be the academics and winning tradition of previous years.
Russell's advice to those coming behind him is to keep your head up cause there will be bad days, but no matter what, push through and never quit. Keep your grades up too.
I assess that this kid's football IQ is incredible as he is already far beyond his years with knowledge and understanding of his mission. Russell has been playing at an extremely high level but hasn't reached his ceiling. This is a rare breed destined for great things ahead. No limits, just fire within that drives him more and more. Stay tuned!
