Cannon is the definition of a modern stretch four with a commanding presence on both ends of the floor. He brings the size and strength to control the paint while also stepping out and raining threes with confidence. His basketball IQ stands out immediately; he reads the floor with poise, communicates nonstop, and makes winning plays that lift his entire team. At the NYBA Paul Biancardi Camp, Cannon made Alabama proud, showing off his ability to score efficiently inside, stretch the defense with his range, and anchor the rim as a shot-blocking force. He played with energy, effort, and versatility that left no doubt he’s one of the premier prospects in the 2029 class.
Cannon already proved his game belongs at the varsity level, averaging 10 points, 5 rebounds, and 4 blocks per contest while competing against older and more experienced players. What separates him is how vocal and steady he is; he doesn’t just play the game, he directs it. He compares his game to Kevin Love, a smart big with shooting touch, and he’s putting in the work to grow as an off-the-dribble threat and elevate his athleticism. That focus has already paid dividends: not only has he picked up a DI offer, but he continues to raise his game with every game. His next goals are to lead Gardendale toward a state championship, be a vocal presence his teammates can trust, and elevate his ability to impact every possession.
The little things matter most to Cannon. He takes pride in boxing out, rotating properly, and making the extra pass that leads to easy buckets. His selflessness and voice on the court elevate those around him, while his rim protection and rebounding give his team second chances and momentum. Off the floor, he enjoys time with family and friends, grounding himself in the support system that fuels his growth. He thrives in those moments when teammates hit big shots, feeding off the energy and proving that basketball for him is just as much about connection as it is about production.
I assess that Cannon’s size, skill, and high-level IQ allow him to be a plug-and-play asset for any college program in the future. His shooting stretches defenses, his rim protection deters attacks, and his leadership makes him a true difference-maker. He brings balance, a blend of inside toughness and outside touch.
Expect Cannon to keep climbing the radar. With his first DI offer already in hand, he’s proving to be more than just potential, but reliable production. As he continues to improve his handle, add athletic pop, and expand his off-the-bounce arsenal, he is poised to be one of the Southeast’s most exciting young bigs. A two-way force with leadership intangibles, Cannon Combs is blazing a path toward being a program-changer at the next level. Stay tuned.
