Derek is a one-man wrecking crew. He is explosive, electric, and fiercely competitive on both sides of the ball. Whether he’s flying down the sideline to snatch a touchdown or flipping the switch and locking down a receiver with tight coverage, Derek brings a level of intensity that never fades. He’s fast, shifty, and nearly impossible to keep up with in open space. What separates him from others at his position is more than just skill, it's how coachable, locked-in, and fierce he is before every snap. He studies alignments, recognizes tendencies, and plays with vision beyond his years. Coaches can count on him to bring elite effort, smart football instincts, and a fearless mentality every time he steps on the field. Offense, defense, special teams, he does it all, and he does it with force.
This past season was a full showcase of Derek’s dynamic talent. On offense, he hauled in 6 receptions on 8 targets and scored 2 touchdowns. In a playoff pressure cooker, he went 3-for-3 for 63 yards and a touchdown, showing off his arm when the moment called for it. He followed that up with a 9-for-11 performance for 124 yards and 3 more touchdowns through the air. Defensively, he had 29 total tackles across the season, with 12 pass breakups and clutch playoff performances, 3 tackles in the first round, 3 more in the second, and 4 in the semifinals on a senior dominated team. His biggest improvement was in speed, route running, and physical growth, but his motor and mindset are just as dangerous. That semifinal loss after an undefeated season still burns, and he’s using that as fuel every single day.
Derek describes himself as quick, fast, and hard to cover, and every snap proves it. He thrives on contact, lives for the intensity of a big hit, and channels adversity into motivation. What fuels his fire most is laying someone out on defense and making momentum-shifting plays. He doesn’t just react but reads the field like a veteran, adjusting to both offensive alignments and defensive tendencies before the ball is snapped. His mindset is relentless. He’s prepared to play at any collegiate level because he knows his work ethic and grind speak louder than rankings or buzz. What coaches will get is a player who’s fully present, constantly learning, and gives everything he’s got. The best advice he’s ever received is "Value your time and never give up", is exactly how he lives and competes.
I assess that Derek’s blend of toughness, versatility, and IQ makes him a unique weapon who can impact every phase of the game. His willingness to learn, aggressive play style, and relentless energy make him a valuable asset for college programs that need real dogs on both sides of the ball.
With continued growth and consistent exposure, Derek has the tools to develop into a next-level threat. Expect him to gain attention as a dual-threat playmaker with a hunger to compete, a heart built for battle, and the skill set to leave his mark at the collegiate level. Stay tuned.
