Lovejoy HS, TX

Matthew is a fierce, versatile guard/forward whose nonstop motor makes him impossible to ignore. He brings the size to defend multiple positions, the toughness to battle on the boards, and the energy to swing momentum with one hustle play. He thrives as a tone-setter, disrupting passing lanes, diving for loose balls, and locking up the opponent’s best player regardless of position. On offense, his game is equally impactful, attacking gaps, finishing strong inside, and making the right reads to keep teammates involved. His versatility separates him from the crowd, and his relentless competitiveness ensures he always leaves a stamp on the game.

Though his varsity minutes were limited last year behind a senior-heavy roster, Matthew gained valuable experience pushing teammates daily in practice and helping his program win a district championship. That preparation fueled a breakout at the 94ft Exposure Showcase, where he played with confidence and composure, scoring at all levels, rebounding relentlessly, and showing calm control offensively. His most noticeable improvement has been his ability to slow the game down, trust his reads, and create opportunities without forcing them. This offseason, he’s locked in on adding strength, expanding his three-point consistency, and improving his handle under pressure. With every rep, he’s building himself into a true two-way difference maker.

Competing with Texas Blessed and Team Mentality gave Matthew a stage to prove he belongs among top national talent. Those experiences pushed him to elevate, adapt, and play with confidence in high-level environments. They also reinforced his leadership, as he embraced being a voice of encouragement and a steady presence for his teammates. His goals for the coming season are to step into a bigger role at Lovejoy, chase another district crown, and prove himself as a trusted leader who impacts every phase of the game.

Matthew’s fire comes from making the gritty plays, whether it’s shutting down an opponent’s run with a stop, grabbing a contested rebound, or making a hustle play that energizes his team. He never lets adversity shake him, relying on preparation, composure, and faith to keep moving forward. The best advice he's ever received is, “Play every possession like it’s the last,” and “Play for an audience of One.” His approach to the game is about more than stats, but about effort, consistency, and honoring God with how he competes.

Off the floor, Matthew’s team-first spirit carries over into his life. He spends time with family and friends, enjoys pickleball, and unwinds with movies and his three doodles. Whether on or off the court, his faith, family, and character shine through in everything he does.

I assess that Matthew’s length, motor, and defensive versatility make him a high-impact player capable of influencing games without needing the ball. His combination of toughness, playmaking, and unselfishness translates to winning basketball, giving coaches a player who can fill multiple roles while elevating those around him.

Expect Matthew to continue his rise as he steps into a bigger role this season. With his focus on shooting development and strength training, he’s on track to become a reliable three-level threat while remaining an elite defender. His high character, relentless energy, and team-first approach position him as a standout to watch closely, with the potential to grow into an impact player for his program and beyond. Stay tuned.
