Luke Schroeder can score from all three levels and finish above the rim. He shoots with confidence, attacks off the bounce, and has worked to create more of his own looks when a defender stays close. His game has an electric scoring edge, but he also watches for the teammates who are open when the defense focuses on him.

Last season, Luke averaged 22.1 points, 6.2 rebounds, and 1.1 steals per game. He grew as a player while putting up those numbers, and he wants to build on them this season. Still, the numbers aren't what he talks about most. Luke believes Shakopee can win the South Suburban Conference, claim the Section 2AAAA title, and make a run at state, and those team goals mean more to him than anything he could do alone.

The wins were hard to come by for Shakopee last season, which gave Luke and his teammates a reason to spend so much time in the gym together this offseason. They have put in the hours as a group, building a stronger bond and preparing to change how their season ends. Luke has also stayed consistent in the weight room and on the court, working on every part of his game instead of settling for the skills he already had.

His biggest improvement has been creating shots off the bounce while raising his defensive play. Luke can use his handles to find room for a jumper or get to the basket, then bring that same focus to guarding his man. That growth adds more ways for him to help his team when a game calls for something beyond scoring.

Luke earned Under Armour UAA Circuit Third Team honors and was named the New Balance P32 Circuit Breakout MVP. Those achievements reflect what he's shown against strong competition, and he wants to bring that same level of play into the upcoming school season. He's also chasing 1,000 points and 500 rebounds while keeping the conference and section championships at the top of his list.

A typical day for Luke includes a lift, two basketball skill workouts, and maintenance work to keep his body ready. He believes people can overlook his ability to score in different ways while creating open looks for his teammates. His coaches can count on him to help Shakopee win through the things everyone sees and the smaller plays that may never draw much attention.

Basketball has already opened doors for Luke, and he knows more can come if he stays committed to his goals. That possibility fuels his fire, but the chance to celebrate a championship with his teammates is what gives this season its greatest pull.

I assess that Luke has the confidence to take a difficult shot and the awareness to recognize when someone else has a better one. That balance gives him a way to lead without forcing the game to come to him.

Luke heads into the season with big goals and a clear belief in what his team can accomplish. His desire to make this season count gives every game a purpose, and he's put himself in position to help his team chase something special. Stay tuned.
