Jeff “Speedy_JWill” Williams III has an electric mix of patience, speed, a high IQ, and explosive playmaking that can turn a route into a problem before the defense realizes where he's headed. His game isn't built on just taking off and trying to outrun everybody, because there is a patient side to his attack that makes all that speed even more dangerous. A lot of his routes are choice routes, which puts the responsibility on him to read what is happening in front of him, recognize the coverage, and make the right decision while everything is moving at full speed. Speedy has one simple request for his quarterback when those routes are called, and that's to give him about 2.5 seconds to let everything develop. Once he gets that time, his patience and football IQ start working together with his quickness, and that combination gives him several different ways to create separation and become a dangerous target.

That entire package exploded during a career night that put Speedy all over the school record book as he had 17 catches for 234 yards and 3 touchdowns. It was a monster performance where the numbers kept rising because he kept finding space, winning matchups, and giving the offense somewhere to go with the football. He felt great physically, but there was also something personal driving the fire because his dad has always told him to protect himself at all times, go out there on full and leave it on empty. Speed is already stamped into his identity, but continuing to build his body and sharpen the details around that gift can make him much tougher to deal with as the season rolls forward.

Even after a record-setting explosion, Speedy didn’t treat the performance like he had arrived at some final destination. I assess that Speedy brings a dangerous combination of route patience, coverage recognition, sudden speed, and open-field juice that gives an offense plenty of ways to feature him. His biggest weapon may actually be how his mind works along with his athletic ability, because choice routes demand communication, awareness, and confidence in what he sees. He understands how to let the play develop instead of forcing the action, then has the speed to attack once the opening shows itself. Add his willingness to work into friendly throwing windows for a young quarterback, and there is a lot more impact to his game than the nickname alone suggests.
