Owen is a long, athletic wing who lives off the one-dribble pull-up, a smooth, deadly weapon that sets him apart from the pack. It’s the go-to move in his bag, and he hits it with confidence, rhythm, and balance. While he can shoot it well from deep and is capable of heating up in a hurry, it’s that midrange pull-up that gives defenders nightmares. He combines a blue-collar work ethic with a competitive edge, always willing to rebound, take charges, and defend with pride. He communicates nonstop, plays the right way, and brings toughness and energy to every minute he’s on the floor. Coaches should know they’re getting a team-first competitor who will show up every possession, lock in on both ends, and do whatever it takes to win.
Owen’s biggest improvement this past season was confidence, trusting in his preparation and stepping into each game ready to make an impact. His offseason focus has been on improving his handles, attacking the rim more aggressively, and becoming more physical around the basket. He’s dedicated himself to Vertimax training, lifting, and mentoring younger teammates in the gym. The sting of close losses against strong competition last year added fuel to his fire and taught him the value of finishing, both individually and as a team. His ability to process and apply lessons from past experiences has become a defining part of his growth.
Now playing for Midwest Pumas 17U under Coach Jamal Hassan, Owen is embracing every AAU opportunity to improve, compete, and showcase his all-around game. Last year, he played up with the Ohio Saints and formed bonds that stretched beyond basketball. His goals this summer weren’t just to score, but to shine in the small things: playing smart, defending hard, and being dependable. At Highland, he’s ready to lead by example, play his game, and help the team rise together.
Owen thrives on momentum-shifting plays, especially when the defense is swarming and he takes a charge or locks down on a key stop. When facing adversity, he slows the pace, keeps control, and doesn’t let chaos dictate the outcome. The words that have stuck with him most are "A coach’s trust." Being told he’s trusted gave him the freedom to play without fear and never second-guess his ability. Off the court, Owen is a dual-sport athlete with elite track numbers (4:38 mile, 6’0 high jump, 2:03 in the 800m). He’s also a laid-back, outdoors-loving kid who enjoys Xbox, fishing, hanging with friends, and spending time with his dogs. As the youngest of six, he’s wired with that natural edge to compete, prove himself, and keep climbing.
Owen is a midrange assassin with underrated athleticism and a gritty, high-IQ approach to the game. His unselfish play, toughness, and shot creation make him an immediate asset to any college program. He’s not flashy; he’s effective, consistent, and relentless in doing all the things that help teams win.
With his mindset, skillset, and work ethic, Owen is poised for a major breakout. He’s evolving his game, developing as a leader, and proving he can impact games beyond just the scoreboard. Expect him to keep rising and to make a name for himself this season and beyond. Stay tuned.
