6’0, Class of 2029

Saint Xavier HS, KY

Derez is a crafty floor general whose game is built on timing, control, and a nasty change of pace that keeps defenders guessing. One second, he is patient, reading the floor, and the next, he is gone. That sudden burst freezes defenders, then it is poof, he is right by them. Off the bounce, his scoring bag runs deep. He is comfortable pulling up with a smooth middy, slipping into space for creative finishes at the rim, or keeping the defense honest by making the right play when help shows. His ball handling is fierce, allowing him to operate in tight windows, and his vision lets him drop timely dimes that keep teammates involved.

As an elite lefty point guard, Derez shows a strong feel for reading the game and making smart decisions. He understands when to push, when to slow things down, and how to put defenders on his hip to control possessions. While he can score at will, his focus continues to be on improving his pace and how he controls the game from start to finish. He is also leaning more into his shot, trusting it as a weapon that complements his ability to attack off the bounce.

His biggest focus has been his attitude and stepping into more of a leadership role, setting the tone with how he competes and communicates. Becoming more reliable as a vocal presence and continuing to trust his jumper are important steps in his development as he continues to grow into the position.

Derez shows signs of a rising star with breakout potential. His understanding of the game, ability to change speeds, and confidence with the ball in his hands give him a strong foundation as he continues to develop at Saint Xavier.

I assess that Derez brings a college-style point guard approach, built on pace, decision-making, and shot creation off the bounce. His ability to read defenders, create separation, and make plays for others gives him value as a lead guard who can manage the flow of a game.

As his leadership voice grows and his shot becomes a more consistent part of his attack, Derez’s impact will continue to rise. With continued development, he poised to be guard who can control tempo, create offense, and grow into a dependable presence as the competition level increases. Stay tuned.
