Matthew is a fierce, physical presence who plays the game with toughness, grit, and an unshakable motor. He’s the kind of no-nonsense wing every team needs—a player who doesn’t need plays called for him to make a major impact. He thrives in fast, aggressive, chaotic environments, bringing relentless defensive energy and a rebounding mentality that helps control the glass. Matthew isn’t just a body in the lane; he’s a space eater. Whether he's fighting for positioning or cutting off driving lanes, he takes pride in doing the dirty work most won’t. And when the ball's up for grabs, he’s the one crashing in with force, refusing to be outworked.
This past season was a personal turning point. After returning from an injury, Matthew elevated his game by becoming more assertive with the ball in his hands. His confidence grew, and so did his willingness to attack. Now, his focus is on expanding his game, adding a consistent jumper, tightening up his handles, and becoming a more versatile threat. He didn’t play AAU this offseason; instead, he chose to lock in on individual development with hopes of becoming a cornerstone for Lakeview this upcoming year. His goals are to take on a major role, help his team win, and earn the opportunity to play college basketball.
Matthew gets fired up when the court turns into controlled chaos, when everybody’s diving for loose balls, crashing the boards, and flying around with energy. That’s when he locks in and feeds off the intensity. In adversity, he slows the game down, breathes, and resets, never allowing frustration to throw him off. The best coaching advice he’s received is, "It’s just a game, so keep playing and have fun." Off the court, he’s a laid-back guy who loves hanging out with friends and running games of 2K.
I assess that Matthew brings a physical, high-effort brand of basketball that coaches need. He rebounds hard, defends tougher, and plays with an edge that shifts momentum. As his offensive game continues to grow, his impact on the floor will only rise.
Expect Matthew to take a major leap this season. With his added aggression and focus on skill development, he’s positioning himself to become a solid contributor for Lakeview. The foundation is there, and with his work ethic, more coaches should be watching soon. Stay tuned.
