"Buckets Vision and a Bulldog Bite"

Jonah brings a fierce two-way game to Edmondson County, where he can score, find the open man, and make life difficult for the player he guards. He can rain in shots, attack off the bounce, and finish at the rim, even when a taller defender meets him there. His court vision adds another spark, as he draws defenders to him and finds teammates with room to score.

Last season, Jonah averaged 8 points and 4 rebounds per game with a 48.37 true shooting percentage, giving him the highest numbers of any returning player on his team. He earned MVP honors at the Double Dogs Caveland Classic and was named a Top Performer at the Kentucky Expo. While playing with Kentucky Supreme, he stood out for how often he helped create a basket, whether he scored it himself or set the play in motion.

Jonah has seen the biggest improvement in his shooting, finishing, and strength. A more developed body lets him play through contact in ways he couldn't before, and he's worked to become a more complete guard. That progress was interrupted during the summer when he tore three ligaments in his toe and broke it in two places. Basketball had been his outlet, so being unable to play left him feeling lost and unsure of what his return would look like.

He's poured himself back into the game with days that start at 5:30 in the morning. Jonah gets shots up and works on his handles before school, then fits in more ball-handling and conditioned shooting after school when he can. On many nights, he heads to the park at nine or ten for another session before going home. He wants to prove the people who doubt him and Edmonson County wrong, and he believes his teammates can make their program competitive even as they build experience together.

Jonah wants to earn all-district and all-region honors, rank among Kentucky’s top 20 in scoring and rebounding, make a run in the region, and have fun doing it. He takes pride in guarding positions 1-5 and believes his rebounding is as strong as any guard’s in the region. A coach can count on him to dive for loose balls, take on a tough defensive assignment, and do what helps his team win, even on a night when he is not scoring much.

His deepest reason for playing is his mom. She suffered serious injuries in a car accident in May, including a broken shoulder, elbow, and both kneecaps, and rescuers had to free her from the vehicle before she was flown for care. Jonah hates seeing her hurt and wants to give her something to smile about. Every time someone doubts him or his team, that fire burns a little hotter.

I assess that Jonah has a feel for when to take charge and when to give someone else the ball. That judgment can make an entire lineup more dangerous because his teammates know he's looking for them as well as his own shot.

Jonah's heading into the season with real belief in what he can bring to Edmonson County. His hunger to win comes through in the way he talks about his teammates, and that shared ambition gives this group something powerful to chase. Stay tuned.
