Colten is a super accurate QB who, if he is allowed to sit in that pocket, will carve a defense to pieces. He has a cannon for an arm, and, if you force him out of the pocket, he can still be deadly passing on the run. Colten has an extremely high IQ. He can look over the field and dissect the defenses against him, almost reading their moves before they make them.
His last season stats in only five games were 140/193 completions, .725% for 1,598 yards, and 4 tds. Already this season, in 6 games, Colten has gone 172/215 completions .753% for 2,051 yards, and 26 tds. Those stats helped Colten earn two Frog and Firkin Southern Arizona Player of the Week awards, a KVOA player of the week award, and the Snoop Dogg Arizona Bowl player of the week award!
Colten feels his biggest improvement has been getting more comfortable being a team leader. Also, hitting the weight room in the offseason made a huge physical and mental improvement.
The most motivating thing that happened to Colten that will push him moving forward was being the 2nd string QB. He watched the team go 1-4 and then moved to the starting spot and helped the team win the next 5 games to qualify for the playoffs.
What Colten sees at pre-snap is what has helped him be so successful this season. He is always looking for where the safeties are positioned and also identifies if there is a blitz coming.
What sets Colten apart from anyone in his position is he is always calm and never panics, no matter what the score. He is very confident in his skills as a QB. Colten is always reading the defense. He is also very good at going through his progressions and spreading the ball amongst all of his receivers.
What fuels Colten’s fire the most is being on that field winning and watching his teammates succeed.
Colten handles adversity differently than most. Colten likes adversity and he welcomes it!! To Colten, that’s how we get better!!
Colten sees himself helping a D1 team win! Colten wants to play for a school that wants him!! If that is another division, then Colten will do his best to help them win! Colten's dream is to play for a pass-heavy team—a school that breeds quarterbacks.
Colten's advice or encouragement to a player coming behind him is, they have to commit and be all in—especially in the off-season because that’s where you get better.
I assess that Colten has progressively improved from last year to this year, and I expect nothing less moving forward. Colten earned everything to have the right to lead a loaded team and is doing it effectively. Colten's skill set is certainly at a D1 level, and I can't wait to see how high he flies as he continues to develop and elevate his skills day by day. Keep a close eye on Colten.
