"Above-the-Rim Finishing, Three-Level Touch and Rim-Protecting Length"

Gracien Niyonzima

@d1.gracien (IG)

6'8, Class of 2028

Republic HS, TN

Gracien brings size and versatility that allow him to make his presence felt in multiple areas of the floor. He can finish above the rim, make shots from the midrange, stretch his offense beyond the arc, handle the basketball, rebound, and use his length as a shot blocker. Gracien is continuing to push toward becoming a true three-level scoring threat, giving him a growing offensive arsenal to go along with the defensive swagger and rebounding ability he already brings.

Gracien has already put together strong production while earning back-to-back All-District honors at Republic. He averaged 14 points, 6 rebounds, and 2 blocks per game, numbers that show his ability to deliver as a scorer while also making an impact around the basket on both ends. His ability to finish above the rim gives him a weapon inside, while his middy provides another place where he can find offense. Add a solid three-point shot to that combination, and Garrett has continued building ways to score from different areas instead of being limited to working around the paint.

The biggest improvement in Gracien's game has come from becoming more complete, with much of his focus on developing into a three-level scorer. That means continuing to strengthen what he already does well while expanding the areas where he can become more dangerous. At his height, the ability to handle the basketball and score away from the rim gives him weapons that can make his offensive game harder to contain. His development is still ongoing, but the goal is to become capable of producing from inside, the middle of the floor, and beyond the arc.

Gracien has spent his summer putting real work behind that goal, attacking the weight room to improve his body while also getting valuable court time through AAU basketball. The combination gives him opportunities to work physically while continuing to play, compete, and develop his skills against live competition. He understands that becoming more complete will require consistent work, and his offseason has been focused on giving himself the physical foundation to keep building his basketball ability.

What a coach can expect from Gracien is that he will give 100 percent whenever he steps onto the floor. His calling card comes from being 6'8 while possessing the ability to do several things on the court rather than being locked into one responsibility. He can mix it up on the boards, challenge shots around the basket, provide scoring from multiple levels, and put the ball on the floor when needed. That combination gives him different ways to help depending on what his team needs from him during a game.

As Gracien looks toward the upcoming G-League opportunity, his focus is on winning and finding ways to impact everything he can for his team. He's not attaching his goals to one stat or individual accomplishment because the result he wants most is helping his team come away with wins. That approach will give him an opportunity to use his size and growing skill set in different situations while continuing to develop through competition.

The same goal carries directly into his upcoming season, where Gracien again has winning at the front of his mind. Now the weight-room work, AAU experience, expanding scoring range, and continued all-around development give him an opportunity to add another chapter. Expect Gracien to keep working toward becoming more complete while using his size, scoring touch, rebounding, and shot-blocking to help his team chase the goal that matters most to him: winning.

I assess that Gracien brings a strong combination of height, offensive flexibility, interior finishing, shooting ability, ball control, and defensive presence at the wing/forward spots. His ability to rise above the rim while also stepping away for jumpers gives him scoring options at different distances, and his comfort putting the ball on the floor adds another layer to his arsenal.

Gracien's next step is to elevate his all-around game into a smooth three-level attack, while his work in the weight room strengthens his physical foundation. Continued development from outside can open more driving opportunities, while added strength can help him absorb contact, battle inside, and maximize his size against stronger competition. His willingness to give maximum effort and contribute wherever needed provides a valuable starting point, and there is plenty of room for Gracien to keep expanding his game while staying focused on the one result he mentioned repeatedly, which is helping his team win. Stay tuned.
