Dawson is a speedy, crafty guard with size and strength that immediately puts defenses in tough spots. He plays with a smooth but aggressive edge, blending change of pace, physicality, and athletic burst to keep defenders off balance all night. He can bring the rain from deep, but that is only part of the problem. With sick handles and explosive downhill ability, he gets where he wants on the floor and pulls-up on a dime with a soft middy and a confident touch that flat out produces. Give him space and it is money. Crowd him and he is blowing by you, carving lanes and creating good looks for himself or his teammates. Add in his ability to mix it up on the boards, deliver sweet dimes, and compete defensively, and he becomes a complete problem on both ends.
After averaging 11 poimts, 7 rebounds, and 3 asaists last year, Dawson has raised his production to 16 points, 6 rebounds, and 3 assists this season with games still left to play. His biggest improvements have come in ball handling and hitting the 3 ball at a higher clip, which has opened everything else in his game. He now controls the offense with more confidence, getting his team into their sets while still looking for his own offense when the moment calls for it. His goals this season focused on handling the ball like an elite guard, raising every shooting percentage, and most importantly winning games with his team, and that focus shows every time he steps on the floor.
What fires Dawson up most is getting stops and turning defense into instant offense. He thrives when the pace picks up, using his speed and strength to push the break and put pressure on the rim before the defense can settle. When things get tough, he stays steady by trusting his teammates, his coaches, and the work he has already put in. That trust allows him to play free, stay aggressive, and respond instead of forcing.
I assess that Dawson brings a versatile guard skill set that can impact a college program in multiple ways. His ability to score at all three levels, initiate offense, and create advantages off the bounce makes him a weapon against a variety of defensive looks. His size and physical approach give him the ability to compete against bigger guards, while his feel for the game allows him to keep others involved. He fits well in systems that value pace, spacing, and guards who can both attack and facilitate.
Moving forward, Dawson is poised to be a guard whose game continues to open up as his shooting range and on ball creation beyond the arc keep improving. His steady production, competitive edge, and commitment to growth point to a player who will keep raising his level year by year. Expect continued jumps in efficiency, confidence as a floor leader, and an expanding offensive package as he pushes toward the next level. Stay tuned.
