Reece defends the toughest matchups, rebounds in traffic, hits big shots when momentum swings, communicates nonstop, and still finds ways to make everybody around them better. The rising senior brings an all-around game packed with toughness, confidence, versatility, and relentless effort. Reece is a strong all-around player who competes on every play, and that energy jumps off the floor the second the ball goes up. He can handle the basketball, come off screens and rain in shots, attack the basket, create offense for teammates, and defend hard both on and off the ball. He plays with the kind of edge that keeps him involved in every possession, whether the stat sheet catches it or not.

That confidence and versatility took a major step during his junior season. Reece felt his biggest improvements came from gaining confidence to shoot the basketball from anywhere on the floor and accepting the challenge of guarding the opposing team’s best player, no matter the matchup. Bigger guards, quicker guards, wings with length, none of it mattered. He embraced those assignments and attacked them with competitiveness and pride. Offensively, defenders could no longer give him space because he became comfortable firing confidently at any moment in the game.

That growth was backed up by production. Reece helped lead his team to a 17-7 record while averaging 13 points, 3.3 rebounds, 1.5 assists, and nearly a steal per game. His efficiency numbers were impressive across the board, shooting 48.4% from the field, 56.6% inside the arc, 39% from deep, and 87.7% from the free-throw line. He also had six separate 20-point games throughout the season while earning HBCA All-District Underclass Team honors. More importantly, he believed he became one of the leaders of the team both on and off the floor, helping steady the group through pressure moments while bringing consistency every night.

One of the biggest moments of the season came during the Toyota Classic Championship run. Reece believed many people viewed his squad as the “second-best” team entering the tournament, but they flipped that narrative with their play and forced people to take notice. Winning that championship with his teammates became one of the most meaningful moments of his basketball journey because of everything the group overcame together.

That momentum carried directly into the AAU season with Progeny on the UA Rise circuit, where Reece has continued showing why his game translates to winning basketball. Playing with a competitive and talented team has elevated his confidence and development even more. According to Reece, the chemistry within Progeny has become one of the team’s biggest strengths. They take pride in playing together, competing at a high level, and making every game enjoyable for coaches and spectators watching from the sidelines.

That chemistry exploded during UA Rise Session II Live Period. Progeny rolled through the weekend with statement wins, and Reece was right in the middle of the action every time they stepped on the floor. Against Illinois Attack, he finished with 18 points and 4 rebounds while helping Progeny dominate from start to finish in a 72-32 win. Against Middlesex Magic, he had another strong game, scoring 17 points and grabbing 4 rebounds while continuing to make timely plays on both ends in the 72-38 victory.

What stood out most was not just the scoring but the way Reece impacted every possession with nonstop intensity and energy. He attacked the weekend with a mindset of playing 110 percent regardless of whether the points were coming easy or not. Defense, rebounding, leadership, communication, hustle plays, and doing whatever the team needed remained the focus. The scoring simply became a result of playing hard and staying aggressive.

That mentality also helped him navigate adversity during the high school season. Toward the end of the year, opposing teams began tightening up defensively and becoming much more physical with him. Instead of forcing offense or getting frustrated, Reece adjusted his approach and found other ways to impact winning. He focused more on screening, crashing the offensive boards, defending harder, and trusting his teammates because he knew anybody on the roster could step up offensively on a given night.

Now entering a massive senior season, the focus has shifted toward becoming quicker, stronger, and even more complete. Reece is driven heavily by winning championships, and the ultimate goal sitting in front of him is bringing home a state title. With the confidence he now carries offensively, paired with his toughness, leadership, and willingness to impact games in multiple ways, he looks poised for a breakout senior season.

Coaches looking for players that contribute beyond scoring will immediately appreciate what Reece brings to the floor. He defends, rebounds, passes, screens, shoots, communicates, and leads while constantly competing with energy that lifts the people around him. Every winning team needs players willing to embrace the gritty side of basketball, and Reece Runyan continues proving he is built exactly for that role.

I assess that Reece is a versatile two-way guard who impacts winning in multiple areas of the game.
